Lefranc Isolating Varnish (819) is used as a protective varnish in the dual varnishing technique that enables a matte or gloss solvent varnish to be applied. It prevents white spots from forming when a matte varnish is applied to matte paint. It is also used to renew paintings by binding the picture layer and preventing any soaking through of solvents to underlayers when the final varnish is applied.
The acrylic resin base is diluted in alcohol and dries instantly upon application.
This is the only varnish type that cannot be diluted with traditional solvents such as turpentine or petroleum.
