A stencil brush is a short, round brush with blunt cut bristles that allows you to evenly control the paint. Stencil brushes come in a variety of different sizes from 5 mm (3/16") up to 76.2 mm (3") in diameter. Some of the larger stencil brushes look like an old fashioned shaving brush. Unlike a regular paint brush you never tip a stencil brush, always hold it straight up when you paint

Stencil brushes have different types of bristles from soft to very stiff bristles. Softer bristles are used for swirling while a stiffer brush works well for pouncing.
